Symbiosis strengthens commercial team with appointment of Jay Chima

Growing demand for biologics, advanced therapies and specialist aseptic fill-finish expertise is driving continued expansion across the pharmaceutical outsourcing sector.

In response, Symbiosis Pharmaceutical Services (Symbiosis), a specialist aseptic fill-finish Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO), has appointed Jay Chima as Vice President, Business Development, bringing more than 16 years of commercial experience to support the company’s next phase of growth and strengthen partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology innovators.

Jay joins Symbiosis from Recipharm, where he served as Business Development Director and prior to that he held senior commercial positions at MedPharm and Advanz Pharma, building extensive experience supporting organisations ranging from emerging biotechnology companies to global pharmaceutical groups.

Based in London, Jay will work across Symbiosis‘ commercial organisation to strengthen relationships with existing customers, establish new strategic partnerships and provide market insight that supports the company’s continued growth and future investment plans.

Commenting on his appointment, Jay said: “The pharmaceutical market is undergoing significant change. We’re seeing sustained growth in biologics, advanced therapies and increasingly specialised medicines, all of which require manufacturing partners with deep technical expertise, strong regulatory foundations and the flexibility to support programmes at every stage of development.”

“What attracted me to Symbiosis was its unique combination of technical capability, proven delivery, agility and customer focus. It occupies what I believe is the sweet spot within the CDMO sector; large enough to support complex programmes and commercial ambitions, yet agile enough to respond quickly to customer needs and provide the attention many drug developers are seeking.”

Joanne Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer at Symbiosis, said: “Jay brings a proven track record of building strategic partnerships, identifying growth opportunities and delivering commercial success across multiple pharmaceutical sectors. His experience across both emerging biotechnology companies and global pharmaceutical organisations gives him a valuable understanding of the challenges customers face at different stages of development.”

“We’re delighted to welcome him to the team and look forward to the contribution he’ll make in supporting our long-term growth ambitions.”

The appointment follows a period of sustained investment and growth at Symbiosis. Through a £26 million expansion programme, the company has significantly increased its sterile manufacturing capacity, enhanced its technical capabilities and strengthened the infrastructure needed to support a broader range of clinical and commercial manufacturing programmes.

Jay adds: “There is tremendous innovation taking place across the biopharmaceutical industry, particularly in areas that have the potential to transform patient outcomes. Symbiosishas built an outstanding reputation for quality, reliability and regulatory compliance, and I’m excited to be joining the team at a time when the company is investing for growth and helping more customers bring important new medicines to patients.”
