Adalvo Expands Biosimilars Portfolio Through Acquisition of Romiplostim Biosimilar Programme from Enzene

Adalvo announced the acquisition of a romiplostim biosimilar programme referencing Nplate® from Enzene, strengthening its biosimilars portfolio and accelerating the company’s expansion into complex biological medicines.

The transaction builds on Adalvo’s established capabilities in bringing complex pharmaceutical products to global markets and extends these capabilities into biologics. Beyond romiplostim, Adalvo is actively building a broader portfolio of biosimilar assets across the full value chain, from cell line development through to commercialisation. For Adalvo’s global network of partners, this means access to a broader portfolio of technically complex medicines through the same integrated development, regulatory, supply and commercial platform. For Adalvo, it creates an additional engine for long-term growth in a strategically important segment of the pharmaceutical market.

The acquired programme references Nplate® (romiplostim), a treatment indicated for adult and chronic paediatric immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Developed using microbial cell line technology, the programme represents a technically sophisticated biosimilar opportunity aligned with Adalvo’s focus on high-value, complex medicines. With the reference product generating approximately USD 1.5 billion in global sales in 2025, the programme represents a significant global opportunity and supports Adalvo’s ambition to broaden access to high-quality biological medicines across international markets.

“Biosimilars are a natural extension of Adalvo’s capabilities into complex biological medicines and an important part of our long-term growth strategy. This acquisition strengthens our portfolio with a technically sophisticated programme while bringing together Enzene’s scientific and manufacturing expertise with Adalvo’s global development, regulatory and commercial platform. We are proud to partner with Enzene, a highly respected organisation with deep scientific and manufacturing expertise, and we look forward to establishing a long-term strategic relationship that extends beyond a single programme.”

Anil Okay,

CEO, Adalvo

“This partnership with Adalvo is a milestone for Enzene. Having taken romiplostim from cell line development through to regulatory approval and commercial supply in India, we are entrusting a strong global partner to bring it to patients internationally, while Enzene continues as development and manufacturing partner. This transaction strengthens Enzene’s position as a leading global biosimilar CDMO, developing, scaling and manufacturing complex biologics for partners worldwide. Enzene is built on deep scientific, regulatory and GMP expertise and a proven multi-market track record. We look forward to building on this relationship with Adalvo in the years ahead.”

Himanshu Gadgil, Ph.D.

CEO, Enzene

For Enzene, the transaction marks a strategic inflection point. Having built an integrated biosimilar platform spanning cell line development, process development, clinical supply and commercial manufacturing, Enzene is now a global biosimilar CDMO of choice, focusing its business model fully on contract development and manufacturing services for biologics. Enzene will continue to serve as development and manufacturing partner to Adalvo for the romiplostim programme, including support for regulatory filings with the US FDA, the European Medicines Agency and other international regulatory authorities, and will supply the product from its GMP-approved facilities in Pune, India. The partnership with Adalvo marks a significant step in Enzene’s transition of its biosimilar pipeline to commercial partners, while expanding its CDMO offering to global biopharmaceutical companies.

This acquisition reflects Adalvo’s continued commitment to building a differentiated portfolio of high-value pharmaceutical products through strategic investments, licensing opportunities and targeted acquisitions. By expanding the biosimilars market, Adalvo takes another significant step in its evolution as a global pharmaceutical company dedicated to delivering complex and innovative treatment solutions across international markets.
